The Wright Brother's Diary

4th of July!

Happy Fourth of July everyone! I spent the weekend up at Granny and Papa’s in Anacortes with Mom, Dad, aunt Joan, uncle Curt, Emma and Claire (Granny and Papa are still in Alaska so we just used their house…) It was very fun! We had some big thunder and lightning storms a couple of days before, so everyone was kinda nervous about the weather on the 4th, but it all turned ok. Oh, and there was some construction going on next door so I got to look at a really cool tractor digging up big rocks!

I got to play with these really, really cool things called “lay-go’s.” You can put them together and pull them apart and they had these wheels too – you could even make your own cars! Mom and dad HAVE to get some of these things.

We also played on the lawn a lot. I pushed around this little set of wheels all day long. It was a lot of hard work, but it was worth it! Except I started to get really tired after a while and it kept getting harder and harder to push it uphill.

On a bad note, I had a run-in with a bee. Let me start by saying I really like bees. The star of one of my favorite shows is a bee. I even have a stuffed bee that I sleep with. So when I saw a real-life bee inside the house, I was very curious. I watched it for a long time throughout the day and it was really neat. But then, the next day it got a little too close to my foot and I don’t think it liked that very much because it pinched me! (I later found out that it’s called a “sting”) Auntie Joan didn’t believe that it really got me because she said I’d be crying and very upset – but all I was doing was holding my foot and saying, “bee.” But as it turned out, it did sting me in the foot and mom and dad were more distressed about it than I was! They said it’s a good thing I’m not “allergic”.

All day long Uncle Curt, Dad and Claire were lighting off all of these little exploding things, and stuff that flew up into the air and exploded and, oh – my favorite thing they did was called a “smoke-bomb!” Sooooo cool! I was really bummed when they ran out of those. Mom said I had to go to be before the “big” stuff though. Oh well, maybe next year….
