-Sawyer wrapped his little arms around my neck and asked me to stay with him for a million years. I can’t think of anything I want more. I love these little monsters!!!!!! I know these moments won’t last forever.
May 2014- I’m so glad my kids aren’t being assholes on Mother’s Day. Oh wait…
-Sawyer just told me “Mommy, we belong together”. I LOVE him!!!
January 2014- Sawyer’s always been a restless sleeper. I thought maybe a weighted blanket would help him. Chase happens to have one stored in his bedroom that he has outgrown- these blankets are not cheap so I’m not buying another one. I decided to offer Chase a trade for the blanket. I went in and explained my predicament. I offered him any book he wanted in exchange for the blanket, he smiled and looked happy with this.
Chase- that blanket is worth 3 books.
Me- I paid for the blanket. Because you really liked it, I’m being kind and respectful about it.
He looked defeated for a second.
Chase- One Magic Tree House book, and the Research guide that goes with it.
Me- deal.
He drives a hard bargain. Pretty impressive.
January 2014- I’m not feeling well today, just tired. I told Chase and he went and made a cup of tea for me. I love him! He’s so sweet and thoughtful!
Then Sawyer came and dipped his finger in my tea. I’m still going to enjoy it:)!
I love these boys!!!!!
January 2014- Chase- mom, do you know why I always hold the door open and say ladies first?
Me- because you’re a gentleman?
Chase- because Grandpa told me if I did it, you’d do whatever I wanted.
Lisa Beauchemin- you have your hands full.
January 2014- I just crawled in Chase’s bottom bunk. He listens to music or audiobooks while he falls asleep. Tonight he is listening to “My Heart Will Go On” on repeat. And, here it goes again.
I can’t help but smile when I think about these boys. Even after the argument I had with Sawyer during his bedtime story. Honestly, I don’t know why they don’t say goodnight to the green ball of yarn- or for that matter why they do say goodnight to the fucking bowl of mush. It sure pissed Sawyer off though. I even just tried to throw it in there, “goodnight green ball of yarn”- he wasn’t having it. We couldn’t even get half way through a board book, we just called it quits. There was no point in going on, we never would have gotten past the yarn thing.
But now that they are asleep, I smile. Because even the things they do that upset me during the day become clever, funny or sweet while they are sleeping.
December 2013- Playing Mad Libs with Chase. He had to name something soft. He said a kitten. I looked at him before I wrote it down and I think he thought I was doubting him. He said, “a kittens very soft! You could use a dead one for a pillow if you wanted to.” I’ll pass.
November 2013- Sawyer sits at the table, looks at his plate, and pushes it away. “That’s not my dinner”.
I put it back in front of him. “Yes. It is.”
He gets up from the counter and goes to the pantry- I shut the pantry door, and put him back in his seat. I tell him it’s this or nothing. He pushes it away and gets down again. I put him back in his seat- and so on and so on for about 10 minutes. He finally realizes- hunger is the only other option. He takes a bite- and smiles. “I like it!”. It was like a dinner scene from the miracle worker. Little shit.
October 2013- Sawyer is using the toilet all of the time now. He just told me he had to go to the bathroom, so I got up to go help him. Chase said, “I got this, Mom”. Then he took him to the bathroom. I can hear them in there and it’s so cute!! Chase is teaching Sawyer to get dressed on his own.
September 2013- “Sawyer, why don’t you take a minute to collect yourself?”
“No! You collect yourself.”
August 2013- Tonight after the boys went to bed, I started getting a few things ready for Chase’s birthday play date. He snuck out of bed and left this note for me. I couldn’t say no. He picked up the toy room, put the gift bags for his friends together, and made the cupcakes. And few other crappy, little tasks. Didn’t complain once. He’s getting so big.
August 2013- Last night we were leaving for swim lessons, I ran back in the house to grab something. Chase comes in and says, “Mom, come quick! You’ve got to see this!”. I said I would be there in a minute. “Mom, you need to come now, it’s important”. I open the door to the garage and Sawyer is hanging from the garage door. He grabbed the end of the door and rode it up- then just hung there. Feeling grateful he didn’t try to jump down- and a little terrified that he is such a little daredevil!
He’s so cute- I can’t even take it!
July 2013- I was helping Chase with a math problem and he said, “okay, I got it”.
Me- okay, I’m just helping a brother out.
Chase- (clearly annoyed with me) I’m not your brother. I’m your son.
Me- it’s just an expression, something people say.
Chase- well, it doesn’t make sense. People shouldn’t say it.
June 2013- Chase made me tea.
May 2013- Chase- Dad, what does asserved mean?
Chris- um, I’m not sure. Use it in a sentence.
Chase- what does asserved mean?
Chase- Mom, do you remember when I didn’t have any medals?
Me- like it was yesterday.
Chase- I had these yesterday. It’s not like that at all.
March 2013- “I’m still deciding if I’m going to get married and have a family. For now, I’m just enjoying being a kid”. Then he just keeps climbing.
